Kat Von D Shade & Light Glimmer Palette - Review & Swatches

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about this review. To celebrate the launch of my blog as well as my progression on Instagram, Vlad and I decided to take to Sephora and pick up a couple of new products for reviews. I had heard from somewhere that if you ask nicely about what they have in the back and there are no heavy regulations surrounding it, you can sometimes score new release products early. Of course, I decided to try this out for myself. I asked an employee if they happened to have the new Kat Von D Shade & Light Glimmer palette (Due to release 7/11/17), and she was happy to show me the stock as well as the tester. By the time I was about to leave the store, I saw a gaggle of employees swatching the product. One even turned around to tell me "Oh yeah, we're just over here in love with your new palette! I hope you like it!"

I left a happy camper to say the least. The new and unreleased Glimmer palette was in my hands and I was ready to roll. What's the first thing that I do with it? Besides stare at it, marvel it, and take pictures of it, I swatch it and get ready to write a review!

If Kat Von D's Shade & Light palettes are new to you, I'll break it down quickly: Kat Von D created a face contour and highlight palette named Shade & Light, and later created one for causal, smoky, and light pop-of-color looks to enhance the eyes instead of dramatically color them. Her layout of three larger pans with three below it indicate a simple, or given look that you can create. Basically, these shadow palettes come with their own personal looks as well as give you the ability to mix and match. The palettes are simply genius, and useful. You'll likely find yourself reaching for it every time you wear makeup, because it's versatile enough to use for casual day to night glam.

If matte is your favorite and you prefer not to wear shimmer or glitter shadows, I would highly suggest skipping this palette entirely, because the matte spectrum is very small. Not that it doesn't have matte shadows - it does, there's just so few that it almost makes the palette unusable as a standalone for matte lovers. If you're looking for a palette that doesn't beat around the bush when it comes to making a true metallic or glittery statement, look no further. The Shade & Light Glimmer palette contains 3, arguably 4 (for this I'll say 3) true glitter shadows, 4 metallic shades, 2 shimmer shades, and 3 mattes, making it a grand total of 12 shadows.

I'm sure that before I go any farther, you'll want to see swatches. I had Vlad be my test subject and let me swatch the shadows on his arm so that I could take pictures. I must say, they aren't the easiest things in the world to swatch. They are glitter shadows though, so I give them the benefit of the doubt. Wet your brush before application for intense pigment!

Swatches of the Shade & Light Glimmer Palette
Admittedly, again, these didn't swatch well. I do strongly believe that some of this had to do with my boyfriend's skin tone blending in to the color of some of the shadows. Either way, these were taken with flash but provide such a high shine! I was absolutely blown away by how much pigment was packed into the shadows and just how beautifully they work together. I did try out a few shades on the eye and I also noticed that they felt soft and blended in a matter of seconds.

Now the big question... is the Kat Von D Shade & Light Glimmer palette worth the big $49 price tag? To me, definitely. I love shimmer and metallic shadows, I love natural shadows, and I love how well these will pair with almost any occasion. I feel as if I can get my moneys worth out of this palette and enjoy the quality as I do so. There really aren't any losses in this palette unless you would rather have mattes. I think the quantity measures out to reasonable (3x1.5g, 3x2.2g, and 6x1g pans). I also think that for how little you have to dip in to pans, how little I noticed fallout, and how minimal kickback comes out of it, I would say it's definitely a top shelf item.

I'll be playing around with this palette much more on my beauty Instagram @Lys_Glitz, which if you're interested in more photos - definitely check it out! Now, I'm off to do face masks with my boyfriend! Hope you liked my first review!!!

xoxo,
Lys

TURN 1 ITEM AT SEPHORA INTO A HAUL! - Tips & Secrets to Get the Most Value for Your $$$

If you're regularly reading my blog, you probably are just as addicted to Sephora as I am and know exactly what to do to get the most value out of your purchases. However, there's still so many people who are new to Sephora that maybe don't know all of the ins and outs of purchasing products and getting the crazy number of freebies and fun sized goodies and want to get in on the secrets of Sephora. This post will be geared towards those who have just started purchasing high end products at Sephora, those who still don't know everything there is to know, or anyone who needs a refresher on all the great deals that you can get involved on during your Sephora trips. It's a given that I'll be stepping in to the mall to find the newest, craziest, most raved about, and innovative makeup on the high-end market at least once a week. This can obviously rack up quite a bill, but with the right know-how, you can make your dollar go much farther than you'd expect.

LIFEPROOF LIPSTICK??? - LipSense Review & MEET JODIE

Sometimes, I wake up to some pretty crazy DMs and e-mails from distributors in the Multi-Level-Marketing business. "You look BEAUTIFUL - buy my product!" "Be a tester for this really crazy trial that we don't mention you get charged for later!" The list goes on and on.. I've heard every speech there is and every excuse to get me to buy, but I continually said no due to the almost repetitive vibe that came off of the distributors. Bottom line, they were focused on making a sale and not speaking to the need of the customer. Soliciting at its finest, I suppose. As someone studying multi-million dollar business management and  seeing the unethical and unprofessional marketing ploys that these distributors held, I became appalled quickly. With the continuous scripts being sent in my direction, I decided it was time to turn away from MLM companies and closet them until another blog decided to take the bait and review the products, get sucked into the scheme

2017 WRAP UP IN MAKEUP - BEST & WORST OF THE YEAR

Before I get into this, can you believe that 2017 is over? I remember spending Valentine's day with my boyfriend and then all of a sudden - poof! The holidays are over and we're counting down from 10. I'll let you know that my holiday was amazing - I spent it cuddled up with Vlad, duh... It was the first time I spent this time away from my family, and while it was a bit scary, I got acclimated fast and enjoyed every moment. Anyway, this isn't about the holidays, this is about the makeup of the year. I wanted to give everyone a list of what I was blown away by this year and stuck with longer than I expected, and what I trashed, donated, or took back almost immediately. Without further adieu.... let's get started with the best: 1. Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Palette This palette was totally left field for me, because I wanted absolutely nothing to do with Jaclyn Hill or endorsing her in any way. Admittedly, I don't like the way she presents herself and never re
