Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick - Review & Swatch

You know what's really convenient about living 3 miles from your nearest Sephora? You can ask your boyfriend to take you at almost any makeup inconvenience. This time, it was a case of "Babe! I'm doing this makeup look and I need a lip color to go with it! I'm thinking a vamp red or berry!" Unlike most, Vlad is actually very enthusiastic about going to makeup stores. He tends to find crazy and unique products better than I can, and usually I wind up purchasing them. Unfortunately, I didn't take time to play with the Boscia Charcoal Jelly Ball like he does every time it's out on display, I went straight to the lipsticks.

I had a list of specific lipsticks to check out - it was an in-and-out sort of deal. First I'd look at the Anastasia Beverly Hills lippies, then Smashbox, then Huda, make my decision, then leave. Of course, with my eyes gravitated towards sparkly eyeshadows and weird masks (much like a bird with shiny things) we spent the better part of an hour in two different Sephora stores in one mall. Way to go, Lys.

However, I was very excited with my purchase. I picked up the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte lipstick in the shade Famous, which was - what I believed from the swatch in store - the single best luscious and sexy red I could've owned. The packaging's aesthetic told me so, as well as the color. I was sucked in and couldn't wait to get home and try it on.

To honor what I told Vlad about needing a specific shade for this specific look, I ran to the bathroom, put on a full face of makeup, and finished with the lipstick. Oh... wait.... let me back-track a bit. I went to put the lipstick on and was absolutely nauseated by the smell. I don't know how old Huda is, but I think she's past the typical partying college-girl age, right? I say this because I know that smell anywhere. Whether the alcohol used in the lipstick was overpowering the scent, or that was the intention behind the smell, this lipstick smelled exactly like Pinnacle Whipped vodka. If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't go out of your way to find out. If you've smelled this lipstick, you know already.

Let's put the smell of traumatic early-twenties experiences aside for a second and focus on the performance of the lipstick. Consistency wise, it was very watery and just as I thought, because it was so watery it was going to bleed. The poor lipstick (even when I swatched it) was running down my wrist and my lips. This lipstick obviously needs a lip liner, but I test all of my lipsticks without to see how they perform raw. Sadly, Huda's just couldn't hold up.

That's two strikes so far. The third strike came in not much longer when I realized that this was an extremely streaky liquid lip. So streaky that I couldn't even smooth it out to create a full, precise color. I spent the better part of ten minutes trying to finesse the lipstick with the wand, with a lip brush, with concealer, with pretty much anything I could. I couldn't get it to work well whatsoever.

So why am I adding a fourth strike on here when it's already lost its chance? Well, I feel like this needs to be addressed: If you're going to buy a Huda Liquid Matte, just be warned - it won't dry down completely. It'll get to a weird glue-like consistency where it stays tacky but never dries. Which in turn, also makes this a transferrable lipstick. If you've ever tried Wet N Wild's Liquid Catsuit and you're at the in between stage of it drying and you've felt the sticky lip feeling, it's the same idea. Only I would say this one is worse because it's going to stay that way. I left Famous on for 45 minutes before I realized it wasn't getting any drier than this. I also removed it because I couldn't handle how long the smell lingered. It felt like I was taking a shot of my freshman year at a university - cheers!

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte - Famous Swatch

I added in a swatch so you could see just how thin, watery, and streaky this lipstick is. I'd let it sit and dry, but it doesn't know how to, so unfortunately this is still semi-wet. Though you'll get the same result as a "dried down" lipstick too.

There's no hard feelings against Huda, I think that she's a very intelligent and innovative individual of the beauty world who works hard and can create spectacular products, but this one just isn't meeting my standards. I think that these products have gained themselves a cult favorite following, and they're an acquired taste for sure. I personally can't justify spending $20 on a product that has more drawbacks than it does pros. The one good plus that I've found about this lipstick is that it's not a totally drying liquid lip. I think that despite the cons, it was probably the one lipstick that left my lips feeling comfortable upon removal.

I don't really think I need to say much more about this one, I won't be buying another one of the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte lipsticks because they just aren't for me. I sure had a negative experience with them and as I write this, I'm still going through it. I have to remove the berry stains off of my arm now and go return this to Sephora. At least I gave it a go, right?

As always, please be sure to check out my beauty Instagram @Lys_Glitz for more makeup and beauty photos including the look I created with this lipstick. Thank you for reading this and I hope you have a wonderful day or night!

xoxo,
Lys

DRUGSTORE FAUX MINK LASHES??? - Mini-Haul & Reviews

How many of you are lash ADDICTS? I just discovered the world of false lashes not too long ago, when I realized my looks needed a little more "extra-ness" (because adding glitter and calling it a day was just not enough for me). As I was falling deeper and deeper into a lash-hole that I honestly couldn't seem to get out of, I noticed one thing - to get those luxurious Instagram-Quality lashes, you'll likely have to spend upwards of $25-$30 per pair. Obviously still as a beginner with lashes, it's just not in my budget to spend all of that on something I'll likely be destroying and tossing. I think the most I've ever spent on lashes is $15 on my House of Lashes x Sephora Collection Cécile pair, and let me just say - they are my holy grails. The style is complimenting to every look that I create, and because I've been using them with almost every look (seriously, you can check my Instagram  @Lys_Glitz  and see just how much I love these lashes), ...

RETAIL THERAPY OVERLOAD - August Favorites

I feel as though no matter what happens, I'm always going to want more when it comes to makeup. "Best lipstick ever?" Well sign me up, but I want this other lipstick too. "MIRACLE FACE MASK??" Great, I also want this other one. Long story short, I spend so much time looking for the next best grab that I often forget to give notice to the makeup that I already have that I've been absolutely in love with this month. I figured with all of the constant hype about the next best thing, I would take a minute to wind down from my obsession with makeup hunting and acknowledge what beauty products have got me through August that I totally recommend if you haven't tried them already. 1. Milk Makeup - Blur Liquid Matte Foundation ($40) If you've read my previous post on this foundation, you already know how much I love it. Influenster was sweet enough to send me two bottles of the new Milk Makeup Blur Liquid Matte Foundation to try and review for fr...
